Today has been a really rough day.
We had to put my parents dog " Jake " to sleep. It was so all of a sudden and unexpected.
I can't believe he's gone. He was only 9 yrs old. He was 1/2 my dog - I would watch him
regularily and my boy Winston loved him, they were total buddies. They loved one another.
He had gotten a bladder infection, we put him on antibiotics, but he kept peeing blood.
He then had to go in for immediate surgery to remove about 50 kidney stones the size
of apple seeds. We did that and two days later, he went into kidney and liver failure. He was toxic and
in a lot of pain and discomfort, there was nothing the vet could do... I was at drum practice down
in SD, about 30 mins away and couldn't get there in time to say goodbye.
My dad brought him home to be burried at his home with them. We dug about a 4' grave and put
him in there with his blankie and his favorite Panda stuffed toy. I have never seen my dad cry like he
did today and my mom. They are absolutely destroyed by it, as am I. Jake was such an incredible
dog and I can't believe he's gone. It was just such a shock.
He was a mix of blk lab and rottweiler or doberman a beautiful dog with a gentle spirit about him.
Please send your love and prayers for our beloved boy...

Re: In need of some love here....
Sat, June 17, 2006 - 7:14 PMWhen our Max died we buried him in our back yard with a few of our friends with us for support. It was very sad to say goodbye but at least he died of old age, 10-1/2 years being old for a boxer. Anyway, a big hug for you and warm thoughts for your parents. It sounds like Jake's energy and spirit will last a good long time. -

Re: In need of some love here....
Mon, June 19, 2006 - 2:26 PMThanks to everyone for your support. I do really appreciate it.
Yeah, it simply sucks. Grieving is a selfish act - he is no longer in any pain or discomfort.
The grief is because we miss him....and with it being so sudden and unexpected; we're all in a
state of confusion and dispair. I was staying over there with my Boxer - he keeps looking for Jake and whimpering...urgh.... My dad is still crying like every five mins.
It was so hard to see him like this I had to leave and go home.

Re: In need of some love here....
Fri, June 23, 2006 - 8:53 AMWarm thoughts and condolences to you. I think grieving is not necessarily a selfish act, but is a matter of respecting and appreciating both your lost loved one and the love he engendered, the gifts Jake brought to your life. Take extra good care in this very sad and difficult time.
