My co workers little gal is getting ready to drop anyday and he's giving me pick of the littler so I reall cant pass it up. The only interactions I have has with boxers is with the mother and father of my soon to be new pup. They BOTH have great dispositions and the stud is a total love bug. I have read AKC sites and all over the internet about them so now I ask the truth from real people. any pros or cons and what things may I have problems with in a breed that wags thier butt when thier happy. This is not my first dog but it is my first boxer and first puppy. I put my last girl to sleep after about 20 yrs of life and now I am ready to undergo a new life long commitment...

side note I plan to do some agility, obidence and squirrel hunting with the dog and I may try to get her theraphy trained. I hate my job so I am investing my off time to my soon to be roomate.

Thanks

  • If you are looking for a dog to spend time with that you will see the results and have a loving, life long friend then you cannot go wrong with a boxer.
Personally, I tend to like males better. Only because they seem to chill after a few years where the females I've encountered remain a little more high strung and excitable. The females are a delight, but I just like that the males can be really chill after about the age of 2. Do not read "chill" as not being active or playful. Much to the contrary.
Um...the bad stuff. O.K. that about sums it up. They are fantastic. I've had 3 and they have all been phenomenal pets, friends and snuggle-butts.
Also, if you ever plan on having children you could not ask for a better dog. They adore children and adopt them as their own. O.K..I'll stop gushing about boxers now. Well, at least in this entry.
  • Congratulations. Your life will never be the same again. My life has been enriched by three boxers thus far and every one of them has been unique yet completely satisfying and wonderful as only boxers can be. Molly is the first boxer I have had from a puppy and there is something magical about the relationship when you can get them at that age.

They are all love bugs and love sponges. You can never love a boxer too much. They can take every ounce you can give and the rewards will be priceless.

    Enjoy.
    • What ' they ' said...

they are a breed like no other.

Once you go Boxer, you'll never go back :-P !!!!!!!!!!!

        hehehe

"Once you Boxer you'll never go back"... that's so cute..and SO true!!

I went Boxer 15 years ago and I'm on my 3rd and 4th. I'm also considering a new pup once things stablize in my life.

My experience has been the opposite of a previous poster's. I find the females calm down way before the males, but both of my males have been intact and that may have something to do with it.

You can't go wrong with a Boxer no matter WHY you get one. If you want companionship.. you'll get it! They love their people completely and unconditionally. If you want a guard dog, good choice! Boxer's are VERY protective of their human families!! If you want a huntin dawg, good choice, again! My son trained one of our first Boxers to hunt deer, wild boar and to flush birds!! Heck, a Boxer will do ANYTHING you require of him and if there is some love and wrestlin after, all the better!

AKC is a good site to read up on breeds, but I suggest some basic Boxer books, even "Boxers for Dummies". The breed is known for the pensive look and attitude, the playfulness well into adult years, the tender yet, fierce protective streak.

I've read many times that a Boxer will entertain you for hours with his antics. This is TOO true. My family has spent many hours simply watching the silliness ours get into.

I'm so happy for you that you are getting a Boxer puppy.

Always feel free to ask questions and share stuff here. We LOVE the stories!

well she is 4 months on the 16th of may and I got her at 2 months. I WILLL NEVER have another puppy !!!!! However she has gotten me a date and did pull a womans shirt down and got me a free flash ( I LOVE this dog) I have noticed from the begining that she LOVES women and children and can tolerate men other than myself but not really as interested in them. Once again I love this dog. Due to the "boxer bug" I have caught and the talented people on Ebay I have collected way TOOO much Boxer JUNK.... We are seriiously into the stage of daddy the chew toy (and she has way too many toys right now) and I dont have to listen to you because I say so. So the grey hairs are contining on me and she is hell on wheels. At 3 months she would sit, lay down, ring the bell for potty time(and to go out and look) Whistle recall so I think she's doing well. The vet says she is really healthy and with advice from watching Ceasar Milan we may survive. she just took my jewelry which of course is a boxer pendant I had made and they do awsome work and she hamed it up for the camera. Proud poppa here and loyal breed owner
